2018 Domaine de la Chevalerie Bourgueil “Diptyque”, Loire Valley, France

A beautiful, approachable, yet robust, Cab Franc from Bourgueil that's flavorsome with balanced notes of forest fruits, red cherry cherry, red plum, and subtle notes of green pepper. The nose certainly transfers to the palate with refreshing acidity.

ABOUT THIS WINE

Diptyque is an ancient Greece term referring to two panels linked together. In painting, this is two panels linked; in music, an oeuvre in two parts. Here, with wine, it is a cuvée made with sun and soil. In normal years, production averages a little over 1,500 cases.

Certified organic (2008) and certified biodynamic (Demeter 2010) farming; 25-30 year old vines on gravelly, sandy soils; aged 4-6 months in concrete vats with a small percentage in neutral oak; unfined/unfiltered.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Two sisters! Stéphanie Caslot has been running the show at Domaine de la Chevalerie (in the family since 1640!) since 2008, when she completed the conversion to organic farming. In 2018 was joined by younger sister Laurie. Their brother manages the vineyards, but it is the ladies making – and selling – the wine.

Situated in Restigné, in the heart of the Loire Valley and the Bourgueil appellation, Domaine de la Chevalerie has a long family history which started here almost 400 years ago. From this line of Winegrowers, we have inherited invaluable know-how and in-depth knowledge of each of the parcels of our domaine.

It is with our feet in the ground that we cultivate our Cabernet Franc vines, aged from between 30-70 years on average. Mindful of preserving the essential balance of our ecosystem we work according to organic and biodynamic principles.

Whether they come from our single vineyards or special cuvées, our Bourgueil wines are as frank as our Cabernets, as profound as our caves and always moreish in their youth.
