2022 Domaine Pierre Riffault Sancerre "Cortem à Bâtis", Loire Valley, France

Beautiful pale gold color, with green hints. On the nose some oro blanco, Meyer lemon, white peach, kumquat, gooseberry, a touch of basil, and flint. Its palate is light and lovely with excellent minerality and a crisp, dry finish.

ABOUT THIS WINE

100% Sauvignon Blanc

This wine is a blend of two vineyards vinified separately in stainless steel tank to preserve its freshness, with minimum intervention. The wine sees 6 months of aging in Stainless steel to then be bottled. The soil is mostly calcareous clay (locally known as caillottes) this soil is indeed very rocky, stressing the vines in such a way as to produce a rich, ripe grape, completely indicative of the region.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

In 1980 Pierre Riffault a third generation took over the domain located in Verdigny, today 11 Ha were planted, 9.5 Ha are Sauvignon Blanc, and 1.5 Ha are planted with Pinot Noir. This represents about 20 parcels all vinified separately to showcase the full expression of the terroir. Now Bertrand (Pierre's son) join the Domain in 2005, Bertrand focuses a lot on the terroir and wants to show its expression for each wine he produces. He continues to work with his dad. All the vineyards are hand-harvested, and the winery invested in a sorting table to make sure only the best fruits are vinified.
