2022 Borgo San Daniele "I'Mauri" Pinot Grigio, Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy

A mildly pink-colored wine with tons of pear, fresh almonds, peach, and fresh-cut flowers.  The palate is followed with intense mineralogy and a fresh and lingering finish.  This is a serious yet fun wine to drink.  It is great on its own but plays really well with hearty soups or creamy risotto.

ABOUT THIS WINE

This wine is a perfect expression of what Pinot Grigio REALLY is! All of the white wines from Borgo San Daniele are exceptional but it is the Pinot Grigio that will really take you by surprise. Most of us aren't prepared for so much depth and complexity from this common grape. Low yields, native yeast fermentation, partial barrel aging, and two separate harvests, ensure the best selection of organic/biodynamic fruit and a superior wine.

Crushing is followed by brief skin contact at controlled temperatures and soft pressing. After racking the must is fermented at controlled temperatures and the wine ages on the lees until the spring. The cuvèe is prepared in the late summer when the wine is bottled without filtering.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Mauro Mauri (owner, winemaker, oenologist, and vineyard manager wizard) of Borgo San Daniele farms exclusively Organically with Biodynamic practice since 1990. You will find life in all his vineyards, including the cru site "Bosc di Sot" in the village of Cormons, where his Pinot Grigio is planted.

In his impeccably clean cellar, crushing of the grapes is followed by brief skin contact at controlled temperatures and soft pressing. After racking, the must is fermented at controlled temperatures and the wine ages on the lees until the spring. The cuvèe is prepared in the late summer when the wine is bottled without filtering following the moon cycles and according to the biodynamic calendar.
