2020 Selbach-Oster "Graacher Domprobst" Riesling GG, Mosel, Germany

The great Riesling Graacher Domprobst from a very steep site on the Mosel shows a light golden yellow with green reflections. The nose is complex and convincing with notes of peach, discreet pear, mineral nuances of slate, fresh earth and herbal spice. On the palate, the Riesling is melting, creamy, finesse-rich and very elegant with a fine sweetness-acidity play. The fruit sweetness balances the fresh acidity very successfully. It convinces in structure, length and enjoyment potential.

ABOUT THIS WINE

The vineyard Domprobst, which faces south-southwest, is very steep and well protected from wind and frost by its topography, is the heart of the Graach vineyards. Selbach-Oster's Grand Cru Riesling is rich in extract and well structured. The Devonian slate soil characterises the Riesling with herbaceous and earthy tones. Only the must of healthy grapes from the best plots ferments spontaneously in used barrels. The wine remains on the full lees for at least twelve months. Its intensity and expression combined with its racy liveliness are impressive.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

From the Producer: "Our family has been linked to Mosel wine for 400 years. For centuries, high-quality Riesling wines have been produced in our steep slopes through elaborate manual work in harmony with Nature. With truly unique qualities, wines from these locations have shaped the reputation of high-quality Mosel wines all over the world. Selbach-Oster wines come from great vineyard sites that have been recognized for centuries. They are not zeitgeist wines that change according to fashion or are “made” according to recipes. They are individual characters, wines with structure, wines that show their origin, rooted like the old vines, deep in the slate. Many of our vineyards contain a rare treasure: they are still partly planted with ungrafted vines, which are sometimes over 100 years old and produce loose clusters with very small-berried and highly aromatic fruit. 92 percent of our vineyards are planted with Riesling; the rest is shared by Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir."
