ABOUT THIS WINE

Badarina is the symbol of our family. It is the expression of the power and minerality that characterize the terroir of Serralunga d’Alba. Here, a unique microclimate and terroir require more time for the Nebbiolo to ripe. The resulting wine is a Barolo of extraordinary complexity which is distinguished by the intensity of the aromas and the great structure.

Soil: white marls with rich limestone, good presence of clays and layers of sandstone (sand cemented with limestone). Soil composition: Formazione di Lequio, circa 15 million years old. Hand harvested.

Clusters are selected carefully in the months before the harvest, each lot is picked separately. Barolo Badarina is vinified in purity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks. Long skin contact macerations that last about 25-35 days and submerged cap management are also carried out. The malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel and concrete tanks. This Barolo is aged in big Slavonian oak barrels and partly in French oak tonneaux for about 24-30 months. The wine also spends time in bottle before being released.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

The vineyards form the heritage, the beating heart of Bruna Grimaldi Azienda Agricola. Bruna and Franco have always believed in this land and, with hard work and dedication, in the past 20 years have bought plots in different municipalities in the Barolo area, all of them being well suited to the Nebbiolo and Barbera vines.

Their winery owns 15 hectares planted with vines, divided between small and large plots. The fragmentation of the vineyards is one of the strengths of our business because it allows them to offer high quality from the different terroirs that make up the Langhe where microclimates, soils and exposures conveys important and unique characteristics to the wines.

The Grimaldi family has always farmed uniquely indigenous grape varieties: Arneis, a very old native grape to this region and the only white grape of our winery; Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo are the red grapes. These grape varieties are spread over different villages in the Barolo region and the neighboring municipalities.
