2017 Domaine Forey Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Mildly reductive nose that is slightly earthier and not quite as spicy. There is by contrast both more volume and more concentration as well to the bold, robust and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a velvety mid-palate

This small but outstanding domaine was created in 1840 bythe great-grandfather of Rgis Forey, the current proprietaire. The 1987 vintage marked the entry of Rgis into the domaineon a full-time basis and he became fully responsible for all aspects ofproduction and winemaking with the 1989 vintage. In contrast to the wines ofhis father, who produced seductive wines of finesse and delicacy, Rgisexpresses a more masculine personality as his wines show exceptionalconcentration and depth. The Forey domaine now exploits about 10 hectares ofvineyards; 5 as proprietaire and 5 through the systems of fermage and metayage. The primary family holdings are in Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne-Romane andFlagey-Echezeaux. With the recent additions, the domaine extends its reach intothe villages of Vougeot and Morey Saint Denis, as well. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru: Forey works a one-thirdhectare parcel in the northern part of the Montiotes Basses section of theClos. One part of the vines were planted in 1968 and another part in 1972.Foreys version of this appellation is particularly sturdy.
